Dr. Singhvi is a member of the Rajya Sabha from the state of Rajasthan. A member of the Indian National Congress, he is the national spokesperson of the party and is a member of the apex Media Committee of the Party. Currently, he serves on various important Parliamentary Committees, such as, the Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice; the Joint Committee to examine the Constitutional and Legal position relating to Office of Profit; the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Urban Development; and the Committee of Privileges. He is also an eminent jurist and a senior advocate with the Supreme Court of India.

Prior to his association with politics, Dr. Singhvi has held several important positions in his public life. He was the Additional Solicitor General of India from 1997 to 1998 and the Vice President of the Supreme Court Bar Association from 1998 to 1999.

Dr. Singhvi is also a writer, commentator and a popular media face in both visual and print media. He has extensively written in several legal and non-legal journals on constitutional and administrative law, corporate law, and national and international commercial law. He writes a popular column, 'Candid Corner' in the Hindustan Times. His columns have been published in a book form as 'Candid Corner: Reflections of Abhishek Singhvi', with a foreword by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh.

He did his B.A. (Hons) from Stephen's College in Delhi; his M.A. (Cantab) and Ph.D (Cantab) from Trinity College, Cambridge, UK and a short summer programme, PIL, from Harvard, USA. For a brief period, he taught at St. John's College, Cambridge, UK.

Dr. Singhvi is an active member of various organisations. He is a member of the Indo-US Legal Study team of Indian & US Judges and lawyers to propose legal reforms for reducing court arrears. He is a Member and Speaker in the Indo-British Legal Forum, the Indo-US Legal Forum, and the Indo-Canadian Legal Forum. He has co-founded the Citizen's Colloquium - Delhi's newest Debating Forum with FICCI. He has addressed several national and international conferences. Dr. Singhvi was awarded the Global Leader for Tomorrow (GLT) award by the prestigious World Economic Forum (WEF) at Davos, Switzerland.

Dr. Singhvi has travelled all over the world and has keen interest in reading, swimming, and sports.
