A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Mr. Ahluwalia represents Jharkhand in the Rajya Sabha. Currently, he is a serving member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Finance, the National Monitoring Committee for Minorities' Education, the House Committee, the Business Advisory Committee and the Committee on Home Affairs.

Mr. Ahluwalia was educated at Burdwan University and Calcutta University, respectively. A political and social worker by profession, he is a keen participant in socio-political activities with emphasis on issues, including the upliftment of the oppressed sections of society, establishment of a job-oriented education system, preservation of India's rich cultural heritage and the promotion and propagation of the social and spiritual values of India.

Mr. Ahluwalia has several books and articles to his credit. His literary genius is well reflected in the Mandal Report X-rayed, which was co-authored by him and which essentially dealt with the fanaticism of a certain section of Indian society.

Mr. Ahluwalia has represented India in various international conferences such as the 48th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in August 2002, and the Conference on the Role of Parliaments in Assisting Multilateral Organisations in Ensuring Peace and Security in Building an International Coalition for Peace. A voracious reader, he likes listening to Indian classical and devotional music.
