Mr. Singh represents the Samajwadi Party in the Rajya Sabha
from Uttar Pradesh.
In his political career, Mr. Singh has held various important
positions. He was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in November
1996. He has been Member, Committee on Papers laid on the
Table (1997-1998); Member, Consultative Committee for the
Ministry of Finance (1998-1999); Member Committee of Finance;
Member, Committee on Provision of Computers to Members of
Rajya Sabha (1999-2001); Select Committee on Prevention of
Money Laundering Bill, 1999 (December 1999-July 2000); Member,
Joint Committee on Central Vigilance Commission Bill, 1999
(December 1999-November 2000); Member, Consultative Committee
for the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas; Member, Informal
Consultative Committee for Northern Railway Zone; Member,
Joint Parliamentary Committee on Stock Market Scam (April
2001-December 2002); Member, Committee on Petitions (March
2002-November 2002).
Mr. Singh started his career with the Congress Party. He
was Secretary, District Congress Committee in Calcutta; Member,
A.I.C.C, Madhya Pradesh; and Member, United Front Steering
Committee. Since his induction in the Samajwadi Party, he
has worked on several party committees. Mr. Singh has also
held the important positions of All India General Secretary
and The National Spokesperson of the Samajwadi Party.
A graduate from the prestigious St. Xavier's College, Calcutta,
Mr. Singh later pursued a degree in law from Calcutta University.
An industrialist, by profession, he has previously served
with the Indian Airlines, the State Bank of India, and the
National Textiles Corporation.
A widely traveled person, Mr. Singh has significantly contributed
to the promotion of art, culture, sports, education, and the
upliftment of the downtrodden.
