Satyavrat Chaturvedi

Mr. Chaturvedi is a member of Rajya Sabha from Uttarakhand. A member of the Indian National Congress he is currently serving on the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Environment and Forests; the Committee on Railways; and the Committee on Government Assurances.

Prior to this, he served as Chairman of the Committee on Petitions, and the Committee of Privileges. He was also a member of the Committee on External Affairs; the Committee on Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme; and the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Railways. He was also the General Secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) in 2004.

Previously, he was also a member of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly (1980-84 and 1993-97), and Deputy Minister in the Government of Madhya Pradesh (1983-84),

An Agriculturist by profession, Mr Chaturvedi composes poetry in both Hindi and Urdu, and is the founder of 'The Bundelkhand Lok Kala Aivam Sahitya Samiti,' Madhya Pradesh. He is an active promoter of literature and sports. The Government of Madhya Pradesh rewarded him for his outstanding contribution to the eradication of the dacoity problem in Bundelkhand in 1973.

A widely travelled person, he has special interests in cricket, tennis and golf.
