Mr. C. Ramachandraiah was elected to the Rajya Sabha in April 1998. Born in Cuddapah (Andhra Pradesh), Mr. Ramachandraiah is a B.Com graduate and was educated at S.V. Arts College, Tirupati as well as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. By profession he is a Chartered Accountant.

Between 1985 and 1989, he was a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Amongst the varied portfolios, Mr. Ramachandraiah has held includes Minister for Programme Implementation and Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Corporation.

As a Rajya Sabha MP, he is also a member of the committee on Finance and Chairman of the Committee on Science and Technology, Environment and Forests. Since April 2001, Mr. Ramachandraiah is also a member of the key Joint Parliamentary Committee investigating the stock market scam. A former General Secretary of the Telugu Desam Party, he is currently spokesperson of the Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party in Delhi.

Mr. Ramachandraiah has travelled extensively abroad and he is a keen student of diverse political systems around the world. He is also the author of the book 'Irrigation in Andhra Pradesh'.
