Mr. Deo is a member of the Lok Sabha from Kalahandi, Orissa. He is currently a member of several Parliamentary Committees, such as, the Library Committee, Committee on Subordinate Legislation and Committee on Water Resources.

He was also a member of the 12th and the 13th Lok Sabha. During this period, he served as, Member, Committee on Estimates; Member, Committee on External Affairs and its Sub-Committee-III; Member, Consultative Committee, Ministry of Water Resources, Member, Committee on External Affairs and Member, Library Committee.

Prior to entering the Parliament, Mr. Deo was a member of the Orissa Legislative Council (1985-98), where he served as a member in various committees, such as, Public Accounts Committee; Committee on Public Undertakings, Business Advisory Committee, Committee on Estimates, Committee on Subordinate Legislation, Committee on Petititons, and Special Committee on Natural Calamities. From 1990-1998, Mr. Deo served as the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Orissa Legislative Assembly.

Mr. Deo has been involved with several Social & Cultural Activities. He is the President of Kalahandi Law College and various colleges and High Schools in Orissa. He is a member of Mohan Sahitya Samiti and Wildlife and Environment Conservation Society, Kalahandi.
Mr. Deo is a keen sportsperson with interests in Mountaineering and rifle shooting. His recreational activities include reading, listening to music and wildlife photography.
