Mrs. Jayaprada Nahata is a Samajwadi Party member in the Lok Sabha. She represents the constituency of Rampur, Uttar Pradesh in the lower house.

Currently, Mrs. Nahata sits on the Parliamentary Committees' on Information Technology and Empowerment of Women. Previously, she has also been a member of the Rajya Sabha and served on several important committees, including the Committees on Industry, External Affairs and Petitions. She has also been a member of the Committee on Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Information and broadcasting.

Mrs. Nahata has been an acclaimed classical dancer and film actress. She has received many prestigious national awards for her talent, including the Filmfare Award and the Rajiv Gandhi Award. She is actively engaged in social welfare activities and also established the Jayaprada Charitable Trust, under whose aegis many blood donation camps, Eye Camps and ortho camps have been organized.

Mrs. Jayaprada began her political career in 1994 when she joined the Telugu Desam Party on the Invitation of Shri N.T. Rama Rao. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rajalakshmi Women's college, in Rajahmundry, her birthplace.
