Mr. Kirti Vardhan Singh is a member of the Lok Sabha from Gonda in Uttar Pradesh. He belongs to the Samajwadi Party. As a member of the 14th Lok Sabha, Mr. Singh sits on the Committee on Science & Technology, Environment & Forests. Previously, as a member of the 12th Lok Sabha, he served on the Commitee on Industry and the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Defence between 1998 and 1999.

Education is an important issue for Mr. Singh as his district is economically backward and with a low literacy rate, with the object of economic development and upliftment of the weaker sections of the population. He has constantly tried for improvement in the standard of education being imparted as well as promoting education in the remote and interior areas of his constituency; and has actively assisted and organized the educated and unemployed youth to establish schools in remote villages. With the increasing realization of the importance of the education of girls in the rural society, Mr. Singh has established a Girls Inter college and also a degree college to impart higher education. Apart from these, he has established two institutions, and is presently managing two inter colleges and a higher secondary school. He has also provided guidance and worked with local NGOs towards conducting programmes for alternative income generation, environment friendly methods, especially for people living in the forest-fringe areas; and encouraged local arts and handicrafts on a large scale.

An agriculturist by profession, Mr. Singh completed his M.Sc. in Geology from Lucknow University in Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.

Mr. Singh is also interested in conservation of the environment, forest, and wild-life; and the promotion of new techniques in agriculture, tree-plantation and fisheries. He has successfully conducted a three year pilot project of cage-Farming of fish which was sponsored by the Ford foundation, with the objective of the optimum use of large water bodies.

Mr. Singh has visited several countries, including Bhutan, Japan, Nepal, Thailand and the U.S.A for professional purposes. He loves reading, photography and traveling as well as adventure sports, aero-sports (paragliding and micro-lite flying) and water sports.
