Mr. Kurup is serving his fourth-term in the Lok Sabha. He represents the Kottayam constituency of Kerela and belongs to the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He has earlier served in the eighth, twelfth and the thirteenth Lok Sabha.

Mr. Kurup during his current term in the Lok Sabha sits on the Parliamentary Committee on Petitions and Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas. During his previous stints in the Lok Sabha, he served on Committees such as, Committee on External Affairs and its Sub-Committee-II, Consultative Committee, Ministry of Communications, Committee on Subordinate Legislation and Committee on External Affairs.

Educated at CMS College, Kottayam, NSS Hindu College, Changanacherry and Law Academy, Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Mr. Kurup is a B.A. and an LL.B.

Mr. Kurup's favourite pastime includes reading and traveling.
