Shri S.M. Laljan Basha is a member of the Rajya Sabha from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh. He is a member of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Shri Basha has served on various Parliamentary Committees. He was a Member of the Committee on Energy, Committee on External Affairs. He is Member, Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Finance since October 2004.

A political and social worker by profession, Shri Basha is a keen supporter of education for the minorities and people who cannot afford private education. He has helped in encouraging the establishment of educational institutions, both at high school and collegiate level for women and deprived sections. He is also interested in spread of educational facilities and institutions to rural areas, gives priority to higher budgetary allocation for education and cultural purposes, and is associated with several cultural and educational organizations to achieve such objectives. He is keenly interested in athletics and is involved in encouraging sports in Guntur.

A widely traveled person, Shri Basha has visited countries such as U.K., Saudi Arabia, U.A.E., Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, U.S.A. and Mexico.
