Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar

Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar is a first time independent member
of the Rajya Sabha from the state of Karnataka. As a member
of the Upper House, he serves on the important Parliamentary
Committees such as the Standing Committee on Information Technology
and the Committee for the Ministry of Urban Development. He
also sits on the Parliamentary Forum on Youth.
Mr. Chandrasekhar has been a member of the Prime Minister's
Council on Trade & Industry (1999-2003), the Advisory
Committee in the Ministry of Information Technology, Government
of India (1999-2002), and was the Chairperson of the Infrastructure
Task Force, Government of Karnataka (1999-2002).
A Masters in Computer Science from Illinois Institute of
Technology, Boston, Mr. Chandrasekhar completed his Advanced
Management Programme from Harvard University, Boston.
An industrialist by profession, Mr. Chandrasekhar is presently
the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Jupiter Capital,
a venture development, management and investment company focussing
on infrastructure and technology ventures since July 2005.
In 1994, he founded BPL Mobile, and was one of the pioneers
to invest in and build the Indian telecom sector. Mr. Chandrasekhar
has varied work experience in the Technology sector. He was
a senior technology professional in Silicon Valley, and has
also worked with Intel Inc.
Mr. Chandrasekhar has keen interest in social activities
as well. He is the Founder and Managing Trustee, RC Foundation
which is mainly focussed on programmes aimed at primary education
for poor children, and has been at the forefront of raising
finances and resources for important causes like support for
Tsunami affected people, Kargil war, and similar events.
Mr. Chandrasekhar has traveled widely and is fond of flying,
squash, driving and music.
