Mr. Yadav was elected to the fourteenth Lok Sabha from Etawah Constituency of Uttar Pradesh. He belongs to the Samajwadi party.

Mr. Yadav currently serves as a member of Parliamentary Committees, such as, Committee on Agriculture, General Purpose Committee, the Committee on Security in Parliament Complex and Committee on Installation of Potraits/ Statues of National leaders and Parliamentarians in Parliament House complex.

During his earlier two terms as a member of the Rajya Sabha (1992-2004), Prof. Yadav served on many important Parliamentary Committees, such as Standing Committee on Science & Technology and Environment & Forests, Select Committee on Trade Marks Bill, Select Committee on Women Reservation Bill, General Purposes Committee, Standing Committee on Petroleum & Chemicals, Committee on Government Assurances, Ethics Committee (Rajya Sabha), Publics Accounts Committee, and Advisory Committee for the Ministry of Home Affairs. Prof. Yadav was also the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Petroleum & Chemicals and Standing Committee on Agriculture.

An academician by profession, Prof. Yadav is M.Sc. in Physics and M.A. in Political Science. His other academic accomplishment includes a PhD on the social and political philosophy of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia.
