In the Lok Sabha, Mr. Rayapati Sambasiva Rao is a representative from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.

He is currently the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Water Resources; and a Member of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. He previously held positions in the Consultative Committees' of the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Shipping and Transport; and has also been a member of the Committee on Implementation of the 20-point Programme of the Government of A.P.

Mr. Rao graduated from New Science College, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. An agriculturist, political and social worker, religious missionary, teacher and educationist, trader and industrialist by profession, he is the Chairman, Jayalakshmi Group of Companies and Vice Chairman, Tobacco Board.

He has worked extensively in both rural and urban areas and has provided medical aid as well as financial assistance to the poor for rehabilitation of fire & flood victims. He has supplied drinking water to needy villagers at his own cost and offered assistance to deserving students to pursue their studies. He has founded educational institutions and is a patron of fine arts.

A widely traveled person, Mr. Rao's interests include study of political science, industrial development, and export promotion.
