Mr. Dikshit represents the Indian National Congress in the Lok Sabha from East Delhi constituency of Delhi. He currently serves on the Committee on Rural Development.

Having worked on rural development and human development issues over the last 15 years in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh, Mr. Dikshit has edited and contributed to Madhya Pradesh Development Report 1995, 1998 and 2002, Rajasthan Development Report, 2001 and Punjab human Development Report, 2004. He has also worked with various voluntary organizations.

A social worker by profession, Mr. Dikshit was educated at St. Stephens College, University of Delhi and is a P.G. Diploma in Rural Management from the Institute of Rural Management, Anand, Gujarat.
Actively involved in theatre and folk dance of Gujarat, Mr. Dikshit's special interests are rural livelihood, poverty, employment and natural resource management. His other also includes cricket, squash and badminton.
