Smt. Mahajan is a sixth term member of the Lok Sabha from Indore, Madya Pradesh. She has remained undefeated as a Member of Parliament since 1989. During her several stints in the Lok Sabha, she has served in various capacities. Currently, she is the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment.

In the 13th Lok Sabha, Smt. Mahajan served as Union Minister of State, Ministery of Human Resource Development (13 Oct.1999-30 June 2002); Union Minister of State, Ministry of Communication & Information (July1 2002-23 May 2003); and Union Minister of State, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (24 May 2003-May 2004).
Smt. Mahajan has been a member of several important Parliamentary

committees. She has served as, Member, Consultative Committee, Ministry of Human Resource Development; Committee on Members of Parliament Local Area Development; Joint Committee on the Empowerment of Women and its Sub Committee on Appraisals of Laws relating to Women-Criminal Laws; Committee on HRD & its Sub-Committee on value based Education; Committee on Publics Accounts; Consultative Committee, Ministry of Communications; Joint Committee for 73rd Constitution Amendment Bill; and Consultative Committee, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

Smt. Mahajan has served as Vice President of the state unit of the BJP in Madhya Pradesh and Secretary, BJP Parliamentary Board,Madhya Pradesh. She was also the deputy mayor, Municipal Corporation, Indore, and as a Corporator, Municipal Corporation, Indore.

Smt Mahajan, a Masters and LL.B from Indore University, is a Lawyer by profession. Her special interests include women's welfare, social reforms and literature. Her favourite pastimes include reading, music, drama and singing.
