Smt. Thakkar is a senior member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Vadodra, Gujarat and belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

She is an active member of the Parliamentary Committee on the Empowerment of Women and the Committee on Science & Technology, Environment & Forests. As members of the 12th and the 13th Lok Sabhas, Smt Thakkar has served as Member, Committee on Railways; Member, Joint Committee on the Empowerment of Women and its Sub-Committee on Education and Health Programmes for Women; Member, Consultative Committee, Ministry of Tourism; and Member, Committee on Transport and Tourism.

Smt. Thakkar completed her graduation from M.S. University, Vadodra. She is, a political and social worker, trader and an industrialist, by profession.

Smt. Thakkar has translated a book Apne Sanskritik Pratik from Hindi to Gurarati. She has been the Chairperson of the Gujarat Narmada Fertilizer Corporation, Bharoch, and member of the Central Supervisory Board.

Smt. Thakkar, who has extensively traveled, is interested in reading and music and is involved in activities aimed at women's welfare.
