An Indian National Congress member, Dr. Reddy represents Andhra Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha. Currently, he is working as member of the Committee on Commerce, Committee on Subordinate Legislation, and the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways.

In April 2002, Dr. Reddy was elected to the Rajya Sabha. Between April 2002 and February 2004, he served on a number of Parliamentary Committees such as the Committee on Finance and the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. On special invitation, he joined the Congress Working Committee in 2004.

Dr. Reddy was elected to the 11th as well as the 12th Lok Sabha, consecutively. As part of the 12th Lok Sabha, he served as the Secretary of the Congress Parliamentary Party, and as member of the Public Accounts Committee, the Committee on Finance, and the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Civil Aviation. During 1999-2000, he was the Convenor of the Media Committee of the All India Congress Committee. In 2001, he was appointed Secretary of the A.I.C.C. and was in-charge of all media related issues.

Dr. Reddy completed his graduation from Nizam College in Hyderabad. A multifarious personality, he has made significant contributions in the fields of commerce, industry, cinema, culture and politics. As a trader and industrialist, he has laid the foundation of the Gayatri Group, which is involved in the construction, chemicals and sugar business for the last thirty-five years.

A social worker and philanthropist par excellence, Dr. Reddy is the recipient of several awards for his services to the film industry and his efforts to improve the conditions of the backward classes. He was conferred a Gold Medal by the then Prime Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi for his outstanding contribution in the construction of the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam in Andhra Pradesh in 1967. The doctorate title was conferred to him by Mangalore University in recognition of his social work. An eminent public orator, he has organized numerous music and dance concerts, and has also built several community halls, hospitals, colleges, auditoria, etc. A widely traveled person, he actively participates in cultural and spiritual programmes. He is fond of classical music and dance.
