Mr. V.J. Darda is a Member of Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra.
He is a member of several important committees notably, the
Standing Committee on Information & Technology, Member,
the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Information
& Broadcasting and Member, Maharashtra Mineral Development
Consultative Committee.
Mr. Darda has received several awards including Feroze Gandhi
Memorial Award in 1990-91 in recognition of contribution for
fostering the spirit of National Integrity & Unity through
investigative journalism, Outstanding Youth Person 1987, Nemichand
Shrishrimal Foundation Award 1996 for Excellence in the field
of Journalism, Award of Ten Outstanding Businessmen, Industrialist
& professional award 2001.
He is the Managing Editor cum Chairman & Mg Director
of Lokmat, Marathi Daily published from Nagpur since 1971.
The Lokmat Marathi Daily has 12 editions in Maharashtra published
from Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Nashik, Kolhapur, Solapur,
Jalgaon, Satara, Sangil, Ratnagiri, Ahmednagar and Akola.
It is the 6th largest read Newspaper in the country.
In 1992, Mr. Darda launched Lokmat Times English Daily from
Nagpur. He is the founder President of South Asian Editors
formed by the Editors of National and indigenous language
dailies in South Asia, Ex-President of Indian Newspaper Society,
Headquarters at New Delhi, Member, Press Council of India,
Indian Newspaper Society, Delhi, World Association of Newspapers,
Paris, France, Commonwealth Press Union, London (UK).
He is Member, Standing Committee on Labour & Welfare,
