India-Yale Parliamentary Leadership Programme
The Indian-US Forum of Parliamentarians has since 2007 initiated
"The India-Yale Parliamentary Leadership Programme",
the first of its kind for the Indian parliamentarians. This
programme gives the Parliamentarians the opportunity to critically
think about the challenges of leadership and to explore freely,
away from the legislative arena, the issues facing India.
All topics covered in the inaugural programme were those that
political and business leaders in India have confronted and
will continue to face in the future. The second India-Yale
Parliamentary Leadership programme from June 8-13, 2008, also
covered topics spanning from pressing global issues to critical
issues specific to India. The Economics of Mitigating Climate
Change and Sustainable Development; Global Economic Risks
and the New Financial Order; Three Decades of Reform, Rule
of Law and Governance Challenges in China; Poverty and Economic
Development; Religion and Politics; Reform of Higher Education
in India; 2008 US Presidential Election - Predictions and
Realities; India and Globalisation; Effective and Strategic
Political Communications; Styles of Leadership; Innovation;
and Leadership Challenges crucial for future governments and
Parliaments, were themes discussed with renowned practitioners
drawn from experts at Yale, as well as research institutes,
government offices, and the private sector.
